We Need to Put an End to Standardized Testing Standardized testing, the disease eating the education system from the inside out. Just about every student has felt their education’s focus shift to testing. Just about every student understands the weight of an exam with potentially life altering consequences. Standardized testing, it's the sort of assessment that is used to mark progression of schools and students; it determines the value of a school and places numerical worth to the individuals within it. The push for standardized testing in the past decade and half has been nothing but a burden to schools. Most people can relate to experiencing anxiety and anguish towards an important assignment or exam, it is not a pleasant feeling. Standardized tests like the SATs, ACTs, APs, and placement tests are essentially the chief curators of these feelings. These high stake exams hold much more importance than that of any one class exam; individuals futures can be at stake during these types of tests, colleges hold them to great importance. This places an enormous pressure on students to perform, translating to students with severe anxiety who truly experience pain under the stress of these tests. High stakes standardized tests are the most dangerous of exams, they measure student ability during a few hours on a single day, yet have consequences that can extend through an individual's academic career.
