For the past eight decades, schools have been testing their students at the end of the school year to see what they have learned. These tests have been called by different names, but they all have one thing in common--they are used to rate the school and the teachers therein. Annual standardized testing should be stopped because it does not test students’ high level thinking, it is a waste of good education time, and it causes undue stress on the students who have to take the test. Today, forms of standardized testing are only limited to educational subjects whilst ignoring vital subjects. For example, the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) does not include what many people prefer over monotone logic and mathematical statistics; creativity. This implies that the influential test doesn’t initialize an important skill-set in life. A common career choice is engineering, and it is essential to have ingenuity as well as astuteness. Thus, the heavy silence and seriousness on the standardized tests are very intimidating to sensitive people. It is common for students to be apprehensive when they are pressured, and the standardized tests are no exceptions. Although, ninety-three percent of 2011’s students found that the tests had let them gain confidence in their skills. This entails that the standardized test are uplifting self-doubting students and boosting their own self-pride. The tests also created a lighter atmosphere around schools after students were let out for their breaks. This concludes that although there is improvement in anxious students, the standardized tests still take up a window of time in the school
