A mission statement gives an organization or company's purpose (Kinicki & Williams, 2016). It not only gives a detailed explanation of the purpose but of the objectives of the organization. The mission statement clearly explains what services or goods will be provided by the organization. The mission statement gives insight into what is expected to be accomplished by the organization. This statement separates what is important from what is not so important. It clearly defines markets to be served and how they are to be served. The mission statement also gives the intended direction of the organization as a whole.

This could be CEOs, presidents, general managers, or division heads. Strategic planning is long-term planning. It usually gives goals for one to five years (Kinicki & Williams, 2016). Strategic planning uses the vision and mission statements of an organization to determine growth and profit goals as well as what can be done to reach those goals. To achieve strategic planning, a member or members of top management must take into consideration things outside of the organization. These same people must also be able to deal with competitors with a level head and foresee what the organization wishes to accomplish in the future. Aileron gives five steps to strategic planning. Tyson Company just recently announced that it will be building a factory in Humboldt. This was due to the members of the Chamber of Commerce as well as the mayor and alderman recruiting companies to the town. In the past few years, Humboldt acquired a FedEx warehouse as well as expanding Bomgard Creamery. All of this was due to the fact that the chamber follows its mission statement to attract new industry and working with industries already located there. The chamber also spearheads community events that draw people to Humboldt and encourage them to relocate there. One such event was just celebrated last week. It was the 81st Annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival Parade. This week-long event brings home former Humboldtians as well as new visitors each year.
