In this paper, I will explain how I would perform Bryson’s ten-step strategic planning process within an organization. I will use my former employer, Northwell Health. Northwell Health is a health care network that consists of twenty-one hospitals in Long Island, Queens, Westchester, and Manhattan. Northwell Health is a new company, and its old name was North Shore-Long Island Jewish (NSLIJ). Northwell Health also has Clinics, Urgent Care facilities, Health Insurance, and Medical Research facilities. One of the biggest issues that face Northwell Health is patient care. Hospitals, Urgent Care facilities, and Clinics should treat patients like customers to provide outstanding customer service and exceed customer expectations.

In this step, I would meet with the CEO and the board of directors, to determine who is on the strategic planning team, what is the target date for completion, and what is the particular direction for the strategic plan. In this meeting, we will formulate a strategy and implement specific details to coordinate the strategic planning process. The support and the commitment of key decision makers are vital if strategic planning in an organization is to succeed (Bryson, 2004, p.34).
Identify Organization Mandates The second step is to identify formal and informal organizational mandates. Organizational mandates consist of various requirements, restrictions, expectations, pressures, and constraints (Bryson, 2004, p.37). In this step, I would work with the board of directors and go over all of the legislation, policies, and contracts to ensure everyone on the strategic planning team are aware of these mandates. The strategic planning team will analyze the obstacles and challenges the company faces. As well as the strengths and weaknesses inside of the organization. In this step, I would gather relevant information and extract vital pieces of information to address to the strategic planning team. The strategic planning team will identify both external and internal environments and communicate these issues to find solutions to rectify these problems.
