Many people attend college to pursue their career, or to further educate themselves. A lot of college students participate in on-campus activities, such as sororities and fraternities, theatre shows, community service, and sports. Many of these students do not get paid for their extracurricular activities, and there are a lot of arguments on whether student athletes should get paid, or not. ‘Why Students Aren’t Paid to Play,’ from the NCAA’s Web site, and source seven in ‘Paying college athletes,’ states that “student-athletes are students first and athletes second.” This is a good reasoning of why college athletes should not be paid, unless they participate in sports that are revenue producing. Many student athletes also receive scholarships, while a student with a 4.0 has to pay for college. Student athletes should not be paid to go to college unless their grades say otherwise. That is essentially what universities are doing when they pay athletes.
