They are faced with the dilemma of whether to join the workforce or go to college. They wonder what path it will take for them to be successful in life. There are a variety of options, but extracurriculars are the best way to guide you on the right path to success after high school. Endeavors outside of school such as internships, volunteering, and the appeal to colleges will be an undeniable way for your future to shine bright. When one has an internship, their colleagues will notice your hard working efforts, allowing you to have options. After high school, you may be offered a job by the group or company you work for, or your colleagues may recommend you to another company that recognizes your passion and hard work. Then that other company may inquire about your abilities. Furthermore, Grace Chen claims in her article “Should Public Schools Provide Students with Vocational Opportunities?” “Contrary to popular belief, not all prominent, high-demand careers require a college degree.” Her claim reveals education is not a priority as much as it once was. At one time, a college degree was a necessity for obtaining a career after high school, but times have changed. Now, those looking to succeed after high school can bypass the money and time that goes into obtaining a degree and acquiring an internship. Employers in today's society are looking for these qualities. These qualities not only are ideal for obtaining a career, but also are beneficial for successfully climbing the ranks in the workforce. Bringing these lessons back to the classroom and your future endeavors will prove to be beneficial. Moreover, in her article “Why Adolescents Put Themselves First” Helen Thomson reinforces “She found that the response time got higher as the participants got older, suggesting that the older people found it easier to put themselves in other people’s shoes.” Through volunteering you can meet a new group of diverse people. Through these interactions, you will gain a better understanding of other people’s perspectives and complex functions. The idea of empathy and how your decisions can affect others are common examples of complex functions.
