For instance, Trimble gives examples on what a veteran writer does in order to make their writing interesting. He also gives out techniques on how you can get a reader’s attention or how you can fix your writing to make it readable instead of having nonsense. What makes this difficult for me as a writer is that I write what ever comes to my mind and it will not make sense. Another thing that makes it difficult for me as a writer is that I am not good at getting the readers attention and having him hooked on to my work.

Different types of literature open new doors through which students’ can explore the unknown and expand their knowledge of controversial topics. The great examples found in literature have been the subject of much debate, as school boards wrestle with whether children should be allowed to read such difficult, harsh topics, as said in the article “How Banning Books Marginalizes Children” (Source F). There are so many brilliant works of literature spanning a wide variety of genres and topics, and a single school board should not determine what students learn. No one is proposing that second graders read The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, but rather that we intentionally choose literature that will expand, rather than limit, children’s options and minds. Not only do these great works lay the groundwork for our future generation, but they also serve to diversify students’ writing and analysis skills.
Before the 19th century, English was not considered a discipline and the purpose of it is still debated. Throughout the years, new cultural, social, and philosophical trends have influenced the way English is taught and studied. During module 1, different videos were shown, and several readings were assigned that helped me to relate all the material. The work seemed like it would drag on until the end of summer. Joe Queenan, the author of “Queenan Country: A Reluctant Anglophile’s Pilgrimage to the Mother Country,” recounts not only the experiences of his son’s reading assignments but also his own experiences more than 40 years ago. When he went he thought of his experiences, Queenan felt that he could relate to his son and his classmates even though these traumatic events were experienced decades apart. I agree with Queenan on his view that teachers should pick books that would appeal to the students. I think that this philosophy should be applied to every other subject as well.
When I realized that I was going to be put into Expanded English 100E; I was a bit resentful, because I felt that I didn’t need to be in this class. I felt as if USM was trying to say that I wasn’t good enough to get put into the traditional English 101 class. Once in the class my feelings changed after a while, because I got placed in this class with a terrific English teacher that wanted nothing but the best out her students. This Self-Evaluation will explain my process in which I became a better writer and progressed through Expanded English 101. Reading my first essay written in this class, I have been able to see some flaws and things I would change about my writing now. I consider myself to have grown as a writer throughout my time in this class. However, I recognize that my first essay was one of my higher paper grades in the class.
