John Lubbock once said, “We may sit in our library and yet still be in all quarters of the earth.” Libraries have been around for about 5,000 years. A numerous amount of people say that libraries are obsolete and useless because of the advancement in technology. Even though the technology around us is advancing, I believe we still need libraries. Less people are going to libraries by the reason that they have everything they need on their mobile devices. Many people ask “What is the point of maintaining an expensive library when people can already access that same information online from any location?” (Source F). “Technology has changed the way we consume media” (Source F). They are becoming more modern and technological just to keep up with the changing economy. “Virtually every public library in the United States provides public access Internet computers as a role central to its mission. This article addresses the issue of why the Internet matters for public libraries, both in terms of impacts on the general public, particularly the digitally disadvantaged and impacts on libraries themselves” (Source D).
