Personal Statement: I grew up on the South Side of Chicago, despite the negative connotations associated with where I was raised, I love my city and everything it shaped me to be. My mother made it her duty to make sure I attended the best schools and too make sure I was rounded in as many aspects as possible. She instilled in me that anything I put my mind to I can do it; to this day she tells me all the time how much she loves to see the motivated person I am continue to strive for my dreams. My high school was one of the top three high schools in the city and required an entrance exam. I took all honors courses throughout my four years there and felt like I was in constant competition with my classmates – we all averaged a 4.0 GPA or above. My freshman year of high school, I wanted to go to Harvard and to be just a lawyer – obviously since then my plans have changed. Syracuse University was my first-choice school and I applied Early Decision. When I originally applied for Syracuse University, I wanted to be a magazine major and a psychology minor. I wanted to go down that path, initially, because I like writing and I think psychology is interesting and fun. The summer before my freshman year started I had an epiphany after thinking about an essay I’d read in my high school English class about if you want to be a writer you must read; I began to think of hobbies I had and how I could turn them into careers and I realized I watch a lot of movies and it only made sense that I’d be a filmmaker. A filmmaker isn’t the only thing I wanted to be however, I also want to pursue a career in the law profession as an Entertainment lawyer. How I came to be a Television, Radio, & Film and Psychology Major with an Information Management and Technology minor honestly stemmed from trying to make hobbies into a career
