I would like to work in the Education field and become a high school english teacher. I want to be a teacher because I want to be able to work with teenagers and I prefer english. I was inspired to become a teacher through all of the wonderful teachers I’ve had in the past. English teachers always seem to have the most opportunity for having fun in class and I want to be able to enjoy my job.
Education has played a great part throughout history. There have been schools since before 1 AD. Starting circa 3500 BC, some writing systems were developed. Egypt had fully developed hieroglyphs. Once writing systems were introduced, they started schools to teach children to be scribes. All through history, there have been many prominent figures in education. Some of these include Joel Klein, John Sexton, Arun Alagappan, and Randi Weingarten. In New York Magazine’s article, The Influentials: Education, they said that Joel Klein was one of the most influential people in education. I will get my Master’s. I will major in Secondary Education and minor in English. Then, I will take my Praxis and student-teach. I would start to look for a job and if I could not find one, I would start to sub-teach. Once a job opened up, I would apply and start working. The average beginning salary for a teacher in Arkansas is $32, 478. The only expenses you could run into are buying things for your classroom, like classroom supplies or decorations. Granted, you can apply for a tax deduction for educator expenses. One of the benefits of being a teacher is that you get all the same breaks as the students do. This is very nice because you have summers off, when with most jobs you wouldn’t.
