Good afternoon, my name is Katlyn Gotvald, and it's my pleasure to represent Maycomb County and to serve as a prosecutor in this important case. A large group of students in the United States makeup a large population of English language learners. Students who are considered English language learners undergo many challenges in their education, and without the necessary support and resources from their educators it can make it hard for them to succeed. A teacher plays a significant role in the success of a child, and it is crucial for them to be able to provide the proper education to students whose first language is not English. It is also very important for teachers to understand the challenges that these students are facing. Having empathy towards the students allows for the teacher to create better connections and relationships to better help them.
In the classroom, teachers have to teach in a professional manner without disruptions. No pupil should prevent the teacher from teaching, or keep another student from learning. The most effective teachers are those who remain in control of the class and always remember their main duty is to help students learn and behave responsibly. Teachers must continually model through their own behaviour the kind of trust and respect for students that they want students to show toward others. Teachers have the right to ask for and receive help from principals, parents and other school personnel.
I am currently teaching at Swainston Middle School in North Las Vegas. Our student population is very diverse, including English Language Learners (ELLs). During this time as a teacher, I have served students with different language needs. It has been my goal to engage ELL students in my lessons as every other student. It is my opinion that as teachers we are all language teachers.
What do you currently teach and where? I am a December graduate of the University of Charleston. I graduated magna cum laude. After graduation I began substituting. I substituted at a variety of schools in Kanawha County in a variety of grades.
These careers are among some of the most important professions that have impacted the world in a major way. Good teachers have taught our presidents to read and write, laid the foundation for our surgeons to perform live-saving surgeries, and provided the basics to our judges and lawyers to keep criminals and delinquents off the streets. There are many people who consider teaching as a minor task, but an ample amount of time goes into becoming a successful teacher. They must take on the task of building positive relationships with their students, while simultaneously providing them with the materials and knowledge to be conducive in an ever-changing society. When I graduate from high school, I want to go into a career as an elementary school teacher. An elementary school teacher has to come up with lesson plans for different subject *, teach the said lesson plans to the students, and grade all of the assignments that are give. They also have to discipline the children if they don’t follow the class rules and meet with the student’s parents and communicate with them about their child’s progress. Depending on where you teach, some elementary school teachers have to also teach a speciality class, such as P.E., vocal music, or art.

As I begin my journey towards becoming a teacher these words mean so much to me. There is so much out there to know, one cannot possibly begin to know everything; however, if one knows how to learn one has the ability to know anything. In the classroom, my role as a teacher will exceed teaching children the required curriculum, over and above, motivating them to love to learn and guiding them to become lifelong learners. She replied like every great teacher should with, “I’ve always enjoyed working with young people.
A good teacher will push through these obstacles because he/she knows it is a part of their job. Pushing through these challenges will make the teacher even more resilient. Having grit will get a teacher through any day because they know they can’t be stopped by anyone or anything. If a good teacher is not passionate about children and teaching, then they shouldn’t be a teacher.
I can remember to this day when I was younger, and every day that I went to school, I would admire my teachers and all their hard work. I told myself all the time, that in the future, that would be me. I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember. I knew I wanted to be hardworking, selfless, and dedicated in my future career, and to me that is exactly what an educator is. I strive to be a teacher that inspires others to love learning as much as I do and also to create a welcoming learning environment in which my students can thrive.
Reflecting on my educational and practical experiences, I appreciate the infinite influence that teachers have on children. I realise that children will take the skills and knowledge learnt in the classroom and use it throughout their lives. I know a teacher has to deal with many daily pressures and challenges, in the classroom. However, I feel I require the skills needed to deal with these challenges. As a teacher I hope not only to be an educator but a positive role model, whom the children can look up to and trust.
They take the time to know their students and know them well. They appreciate what attributes to each child’s story and take ownership of their role in the child’s life for that school year. I feel that I have the skills and attributes of an outstanding teacher because of the pride I take in the love and support I show my students and families. I know teachers have the power to make a lasting difference and I start every year with that mindset.
