The monarchy in Canada is a continuous debate among the politicians and individuals. This paper aims to present the advantages and disadvantages of the monarchy in Canada. This way will enable us to take a clear position. First, Canadian politics are known for their divisive attitudes, and it is very hard to get consensus on decisions. The Queen plays the role of reference for the Canadian politicians and their decisions.
Addressing the secession of many southern states, Lincoln said “It is safe to assert that no government proper ever had a provision in its organic law for its own termination.” The U.S. could not be legally broken up. The Constitution does not allow for such a form of divide. The U.S. already tried operating as separate states in the form of the Articles of Confederation. An attempt like that has already been made, with little success.
s Article VI grants Congress the power to make and maintain military powers (an army or navy). Meanwhile, the article grants permission to make postal offices, to establish courts, to declare war, and raise money. Two-thirds of representative and the Senate must vote on the change. In addition, three-fourths of the state must vote for change. The treaties and laws represented in the Constitution are primary and the most important law in the country.
e Constitution, there are several rules and regulations that are clearly stated that allow the government to know exactly how to rule the country. However, the creators of the Constitution also left somethings out so that future leaders could determine and interpret laws in a way where they were not really restricted to doing something one specific way. This helps a lot when it comes to the changing of times because the time during in which the Constitution was drafted and ratified, the environment of the nation was much different from what it currently is today. The Constitution, from then to now, has barely been changed which truly shows how well thought out it was compared to say the earlier government called the Articles of Confederation,
Canada should remain a Constitutional Monarchy for multiple reasons. Three of many reasons are: the impossibility of it being abolished, the monarchy being part of many Canadians’ lives, and how Canada's government works well even with the monarchy. To begin with, Canada should remain a Constitutional Monarchy because of how impossible it is to be abolished.
We have learned that not all monarchies or tyrannies were bad, that they could be benevolent, and that democracy was also not entirely good. It would take a very long period of time for the democratic system to gradually evolve into the representative democracy that we know today. It is also important to note that the founders of modern day democracy looked to aristocratic and oligarchic systems for inspiration rather than the Athenian democratic system at the time (Brand, n.d., 35). Hence, the study of Greek history and evolution of governmental structures can help us better understand the political systems that we have today. 7 UNIT 2 ASSIGNMENT -
The Greek philosopher Aristotle believed the people's government known as demokratia (democracy) was less desirable than other forms of authority such as aristocracy, polity, and monarchy. The root word "demos" has several meanings in the Greek Language. The term democracy means mob or assembly and Aristotle believed a democratic government was an authority ruled by the lesser educated or mob rule. During the period of Athenian Democracy, native male born citizens were strongly encouraged to participate in politics while women, slaves, and aliens were without decision-making priviledges. Some Athenians purchased their positions, while others were not equipped to contribute to politics properly.
Aristotle states, “Hence the proper course is to employ numerical equality in some things and equality according to worth in others. But nevertheless democracy is safer and more free from civil strife than oligarchy ; for in oligarchies two kinds of strife spring up, faction between different members of the oligarchy and also faction between oligarchs and the people, whereas in democracies only strife between the people and the oligarchical party occurs. ”(Aristotle XXI 377). Greeks were more equal and had a chance to voice their opinions by taking action through the government system of democracy. There was an equal distribution of political power and citizens had the right to govern themselves because “(there are two things that are thought to be defining features of democracy, the sovereignty of the majority and liberty); for justice is supposed to
Therefore, the Athenian government is advantages to the average citizen to ensure the government does not take advantage of them. This is similar to modern democracies and they have worked well so far, by no means are they perfect but it’s the best
Aristotle thought the best form of government was a polity or constitutional government; however, a polity was non-existent in Aristotle’s time. Correspondingly, Locke
Throughout the world there are countless forms of government around, some, like fascism and monarchy give power to the few. While others like democracy and communism give power to the many. I believe that governments like those installed into the United States today benefit the many exceedingly more than monarchies with benefits such as representatives for the people. Though, I do believe that monarchies played a key role in improving the world for what it is today with the creation governments like that of the United States because of it. Monarchies could continue to do so if reprised to a position of power like that of the United States, as monarchs can introduce positive ideas quickly and with care or leading to oppositions and conflicts
A leader needs to show multiple components to be successful, but the best way seems to be control to people with fear. These passages are coming from all different times in the world, but the facts and ideas still stand true today. Aristotle defines democracy as a form of government that is by the people, one where everyone has a
Theres only one government I would wish for my country, and that is a capitalistic constitutional monarchy. I chose this for my country because of many reasons. It follows tradition, and allows for quick decision making. It also grants rights and doesn’t let the leader get out of hand. The capitalistic side encourages citizens to earn more by working harder.
As we have established, if the primary role of the state is to secure and maintain the most possible happiness for the people, the surely an unjust state would not be a state capable of achieving this goal. Monarchies seem the ideal constitution to Aristotle because the virtue of the monarch is not diluted by the potentially selfish desires of others. However, this is also the least stable of the
Democracy- the best form of governance; is evidently disputed in modern day politics. The disagreement has been carried on for centuries, as seen in Plato 's Republic and Pericles Speeches. According to The Republic, democracy cannot be implemented as the common man lacks the in-depth knowledge of vital spheres of bureaucracy such as economics, military stratagem, international conditions, and the niceties of law. However, this form of governance is viewed in a much more favorable light by Pericles in Thucydides ' History of the Peloponnesian Wars. He believes democracy is all beneficial to every sector of society and should be run for the general well-being, serving the ultimate goal of equality in justice.
