The Pros And Cons Of Abortion

Abortion should not be illegal There are people who are supporters and encouragers of abortion. These men and women are called pro-choice. These people most often see the baby inside a woman as a piece of tissue. They do not believe that life begins at conception, they believe that life begins when the baby is delivered and takes its first breath. Abortions are seen as a right and that it should not be taken away from them (US Supreme Court, 1973). This creates a mindset that the woman is more important than the human life she is carrying inside of her. Believing that a woman has more rights than an unborn human being completely removes the idea that human life is sacred and that all humans should protected. There are a few that believe abortions should be used as a last result only and that they should not be used as a form of birth control (US Supreme Court, 1973). Both sides within the argument of abortion can have at least two different groups of people. Not all pro-choice advocates are completely for abortion at all time, but all believe that it is morally okay to end the life of a human developing inside a mother. Many believe that abortion is just a procedure that is done inside a doctor’s office, and there is nothing externally or internally that will follow the procedure. The beliefs of the pro-choice supporters are derived from the Democratic party platform and their support of Roe v. Since women were given the right to choose if they wanted an abortion, they oftentimes hold the reins in this debate. Most women believe that their rights to an abortion outweigh any rights that an embryo or fetus could possibly have (US Supreme Court, 1973). This relates to the pro-choice lifestyle because so many believe that the human inside of them is not alive, and as a result, the unborn child’s rights are ignored. Since they hold their right to choose so closely, they oppose any and all efforts to take that right away (DNC, 2012). Women believe that since it is their own bodies that will undergo the procedure, they have the right to decide if they want to have an abortion or not. Since they are housing the baby, their opinion is far more important than the child’s could ever be. Several also believe that with their right to choose, they also have the right to “safe and legal abortions” (DNC, 2012). Many threaten that if their right is taken away from them they will go and find another unsafe way to terminate their pregnancy. Out of fear for the safety of the mother lives, many support women so that they do not endanger themselves and others in their attempt to exercise their right to choose. Women play a major role in the debate of abortion and rights that accompany it. Many women, since they believe they have more rights than a fetus, have no regard for a preborn human life.
