Gun Control has been one of the most controversial issues in the United States in this decade. From shootings by men to the shootings by kids, every time a shooting comes on the news the argument becomes stronger. Should we, the United States, create stricter gun laws and legislation? Will new gun laws cause a decline in the gun crime rate in the United States? The United States is divided into two sides on this issue, firmly putting their feet down for their beliefs. Gun Control advocates believe that the number of firearms in the hands of citizens are too great in the U.S. According to a survey by the National Institute of Justice there are over 300 million firearms that are circulating hands in the U.S. Realizing this survey is nine-years-old, the number of guns circulating could only have increased. Gun control supporters also believe that the Second Amendment was intended for state militias; that gun violence would be reduced by having stricter gun laws, that gun restrictions have always existed; and that a majority of Americans believe in the new gun restrictions. It is currently being debated whether the general public should have access to these firearms. The controversy involves firearms that are too militaristic for the national public to own. By saying these guns are too militaristic, ordinary Americans have many options in firearms compared to when the second amendment passed when you could only shoot one shot per minute. Now Americans have a plethora of choices; folding, detachable, or telescoping stocks, to silencers to muffle gunshot sounds, flash suppressors that conceal a shooter’s location, or with the right paperwork a grenade launcher attachment.
