Gun control is a controversial topic that has caused contentious debate during President Obama’s tenure. The debate has been at the center of attention socially and politically over the question of how much gun control is required and necessary. By terms: “Gun control laws aim to restrict or regulate the sale, purchase, or possession of firearms through licensing, registration, or identification requirements” (USLegal). Over recent years the tragic incidents involving mass public shooting have promoted advocates to push for legislative changes. Discussions have circled whether the current laws need stricter enforcement or new legislation is required.
Interpreting the Second Amendment has been the focus to determine if new gun control laws are supported by the Constitution. Debates have differed from community to community. The Second Amendment states, ratified 12/15/1791, states “a well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (Constitution Center). During the agenda setting process the members focus on times, places, and set a list of the problems to be solved, and prioritized them. Currently the process has been formulated. Conflicting committees have already seen the new policies and have retorted with their reviews. The President has likely appointed additional officials and involved his likely legislators that will support his policies to make any additions or implementations. This is where the policy currently resides, and is close to the next stage, which is the adoption stage where ii will be ran through
