There is a very heated and divided debate going on in America. This debate would be over gun control and more specifically the Second Amendment. The Second Amendment protects the individual's rights to bear arms. It comes down to whether or not gun control regulations should be tightened and if they should then they would most likely interfere with an individual's right to bear arms. Many people believe there should be stricter gun laws, however it would interfere with people's existing rights. There are many reasons why the laws should not be tightened such as it infringes upon the Second Amendment, it would also interfere with the process of purchasing a gun and finally it would change a law that has been in place for almost 250 years. …show more content…

There are restrictions on buying firearms, regulations and background checks required before purchasing a weapon. Many people say it needs to be more tedious process and have stricter laws about this but gun control will not work. ¨What gun control law would have stopped the killer? Limiting ammunition magazines to 10 rounds? Restricting sales of semiautomatic rifles to one a month? Per year? Banning "assault rifles"?¨ (Farago, 1). The laws put in place will not stop a criminal if the want to shoot a place up murder is already illegal but that is not stopping them. If a person is not afraid to murder someone then what is a gun control law going to do to keep guns out of their hands, the answer is nothing. People will get hands on guns if the want to get them. A prime example that gun control does not work is Chicago. They have some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation and it has an extremely high gun related crimes. They have laws but criminals are disobeying them. If it does not work in Chicago then it will not work for the rest of the country. There is no reason to take guns away from law abiding
