Driving is a huge responsibility we are in charged of keeping our teens saved the programs the state institutes are helpful. “Since they first graduated driver programs were instituted, there have been 1,348 fewer deadly crashes.” But they wont keep our teens saved because
“Every year 500,000 teens are injured in a car wreck. Every year 5,000 teens die in a car wreck meaning an average of 14 teens die a day. Car crashes are the No. 1 killer of teens in the U.S. Even more than alcohol and drug abuse, violence and suicide”. Teens are always excited to earn their license and drive out on the road for the first time, but not every time will be a success, it might also be their last.
According to the Association for Safe International Road Travel crashes due to drivers ages 16- 20 have killed 8,000 people per year. Already this is a devastating amount of accidents and injuries to be accounted for because of young drivers. We should not add to this number and do everything we can to lower the statistics. This can only be accomplished if we do not permit young teenagers, at age fourteen and fifteen, to receive their driver's license.
There are different views about the suitable age in which people can start to drive. While, in the most countries people aged 18 are allowed to drive, a certain section of nations argue that this age has to be increased, at least 25. Advocates of start driving in the age of 18 point out that teenagers reach perfect maturity in this age and have a capability to learn and experience new skills such as driving. This age would appear to be a prominent landmark in human life since they enter to different world, moving greatly from their families to the wider society…..
Immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors leading to the high crash rate among teens. Teens’ lack of experience affects their recognition of and response to hazardous situations and results in dangerous practices such as speeding and tailgating. According to NHTSA’s National Center for Statistics and Analysis, among drivers involved in fatal crashes, young males are the most likely to be speeding. In 2013 about 35 percent of both 15 to 20-year old and 21 to 24-year old male drivers who were involved in fatal crashes were speeding at the time of the crash, compared to 21 percent of female drivers of the same age groups. ’’
People often overlook the way teens drive because they think that since they are young it is okay for them to drive reckless which is not right. (“Reasons Why Teenagers and Older People are The Riskiest
Often when big responsibilities are given to younger people they tend to get over excited, this can lead to young drivers drinking and even taking drugs before driving. Again causing more opportunities for accidents to happen and lives to be lost. Just the other day 2 people were killed in a P plater accident. They were supposedly drag racing and drove off a bridge. There is a lot of pressure on teenagers these days, especially with high school amongst other things.
The leading death of car accidents is from teenagers. The articles “Should the Driving Age be raised to 18?” from the New York Times Upfront, and “Do Teens Need Graduated Licenses?” from Current Events, talk about teenage driving and how to reduce the number of accidents that happen from teenagers. Graduated Drivers Licenses (GDL) has a better system of reducing accidents because teens have to earn driving privileges, they have to have road experience, and the GDL teaches them how to drive instead of them teaching themselves.
Some restrictions have already been made in multiple areas to keep the number of accidents low. “States have made the licensing process more rigorous in many ways: longer permitting times, driver’s ed requirements, and restrictions on nighttime driving and carrying fellow teenage passengers. Experts say all of these requirements help give teenagers the experience they need on the road” (What Happens Behind the Wheel, Paragraph 4). If the driving age were to be raised, some of these restrictions could be raised, because the teen is more mature and developed. Or, new restrictions could be added to verify the new driver’s
Sixteen year olds are involved in car crashes nearly 5 times the rate of drivers 20 and older. This proves that the 16 year olds are more dangerous when driving than 20 year olds and older. Even teens of the same age are supporting the idea of raising the driving age. According to the article “ Raising the legal driving age would benefit society as a whole” ( Davis 1 ). When teens drink many bad things can happen, but even when drunk, the statistics show that only 10 % of 16 year olds killed in car crashes had a blood alcohol test of higher than .10 compared with 43% of 20 to 49 year olds killed.
Driving is a serious responsibility and many teenagers are yet to learn how to act responsibly. Many young drivers are vulnerable and seem to want to impress their peers. Young drivers tend to drive at high speeds, race their cars against each other, and are, therefore, not acting responsibly on the road. According to the article, “A license to save young lives,” Stevenson (2011) argues that a high number of newly licensed drivers in the crash statistics are due to factors such as inexperience, an inability to identify hazards, night-time driving, carrying same-age passengers and risky driving behaviors. It is evident from this that young drivers are irresponsible when it comes to following the rules and regulations of the road.
Today, teens all over the U.S. are getting their licenses and passing drivers tests at the low age of 18. At the age of 18, most teenagers and still being
According to the IIHS, teenage drivers have crash rates three times the amount of drivers over twenty. Sixteen year old drivers are also able to gain their parent’s
Introduction I. I. According to the American Automobile Association, about 8 % of teenagers drive, and are involved about 15% of fatal crashes. II. Traffic crashes is one of reason causes death and injury for young ages from 15 to 19.
Our lives are unbelievably valuable so we should do everything rational to avoid deaths. Nowadays, teenagers are specifically dangerous due to their recklessness and they are the ones that are more likely to commit car accidents. Delaying when they get their driver’s license, the roads will be more secure. If the age of driving is increased, the amount of car crashes will decrease. For instance, teens think that they’re fearless, which is why they take silly risks unlike mature drivers.
