Shortly after President Trump entered into office he issued an Executive Order that would ban people from certain countries, even those with travel visas from entering the United States. The issuance of this travel ban caused much controversy. I am not in favor of the actions taken by President Trump relating to the suspension of entry visas for citizens of certain countries. The travel seems to violate not only the First and Fifth Amendment of the Constitution, but it also stifles scientific and technological innovations that can protect the United States.

In a report done in 2013 by the National Science Foundation, it was found that of the 29 million scientists in the United States 5 million of the scientists come from a different country (Kapland, 2017). This also could harm the United States relationship with the world. While the ban is attempting to prevent terrorists from entering the country, it is also harming global collaboration within the science community who are studying natural disasters, diseases, and other global issues (Kaplan, 2017). This not only harms the people that are banned from entering the country but also the people who are now stuck in the United States because traveling could potentially mean not being able to enter the country again. The travel ban harms the business who are employing these people. In an amicus brief including 97 technology companies, like Apple, Google, Facebook, and Intel oppose the travel ban, can cite that it hampers them being able to operate their businesses normally (Balakrishnan, 2017). In the brief, it states that the travel ban: "severely undermines immigrants' and businesses' ability to make plans, conduct business, or manage affairs involving non-citizens…" (Balakrishnan, 2017). The United States was built through innovation and technological advances in many cases created by immigrants.
