Many people believe that Racial Profiling is a relatively new tactic by law enforcement agencies. But in reality, it has been prevalent in police work for over hundreds of years. Most people disagree; with few agreeing with its use. I personally think racial profiling tears our country apart. As we have seen from the Civil War, the only thing that has been achieved from racial profiling is death and destruction. Even in modern times racial profiling causes an unnecessary amount of police shootings and deaths to African Americans and latinos.

Instead they often act more dangerous towards dark skinned people than criminals do. Kolwalski argues “such discrimination alienates communities from law enforcement, hinders community policing efforts, and causes law enforcement to lose credibility and trust among the people they are sworn to protect and serve.”(Kolwalski). Profiling causes people and communities to lose trust that police can do their job the way it's intended to be done. Then people start taking things into their own hands, which then raises crime rate and civilians begin ignoring laws because police officers aren’t respected/taken seriously. The reason police continue to racial profile is because of our weak laws against it. If there were stronger and tighter laws on the way officers can arrest and treat civilians then the rate of complained racial profiling would go down; because officers could lose their jobs or be arrested. The problem with passing laws on racial profiling is it takes away an easy way to catch a possible criminal; no matter if they are a criminal or not. The only reason they don't make racial profiling against the law is because police would lose when of the biggest way they find criminals.
