The United States federal government is comprised of three branches, the legislative, the executive, and the judicial. Within the judicial branch there is the federal court and the state court. The job of the court is to interpret the laws and hold the people accountable for the laws that were passed by the legislative branch. Additionally, the Judicial Branch settles legal disputes, determines punishment for breaking the law, and protects the individual rights of each state.
The Supreme Court of the United States is located in Washington, DC and is the highest court within the judicial branch. The Supreme Court of the United States consists of nine justices that are appointed by President of the United States who is part of the Executive …show more content…

The legislative branch makes the lower courts. These courts are used by the states just to keep the law in place. The legislative branch also has the power to approve or veto the justice’s appointment by the executive branch. Another way the legislative branch checks the judicial is through impeachment of these judges. This has to be passed by both houses and the house of representatives has to file and article of impeachment. Once the house or representatives agrees to impeach the judge it then moves into the senate which hold a trial to determine if the judge is no longer fit for the position they are in on the supreme court. The senate has to have a two-thirds majority to impeach the official from office. All together the process take time and is hard to do. Only 15 judges have been impeached by the legislative branch since the system of checks and balances has been in place. The final check on the judicial branch is conducted by the executive branch (president). This check is by the appointment of the judges to the court. If the executive branch does no see that the justice is fit for the position then they would not appoint them to office. This allows for only the top prospect to be chosen for the judiciary branch.
