The Trojan Horse is the biggest factor in the Greeks victory in the Trojan War. It took only three days and three nights to build the Trojan Horse (“Trojan Horse”). The horse has a very complicated history, including the many people involved in it's creation, and the significant events leading up to the war itself. There was a lot of action that occurred during the final battle when the horse was used, and there were extremely plausible reasons for making it. The Trojan Horse played a major role in the Trojan War and is one of the only ways the Greeks could have gained their victory over the city of Troy. All of the gods and goddesses were invited to the wedding except Eris, the goddess of discord. This made her so outraged that she planned to crash the wedding. Once Eris arrived at the wedding, she threw a golden apple inscribed with, “ For the fairest.” This apple made three goddesses crave it's ownership, Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite. After hours of fighting over the apple, Hermes, the messenger of Olympia, finally made Paris, prince of Troy, in charge of deciding the apple’s fate. Because of this, all three goddesses, consumed with greed, bribed Paris with an assortment of things. Hera offered dominion over the whole world, Athena proclaimed certain victory in every battle, and Aphrodite promised the most beautiful woman in the world. Paris finally decided to give the apple to Aphrodite, and in return she told him the location of the woman he was promised. Her name was Helen, wife of Menelaus, and queen of Sparta. Despite his brother’s objections, Paris set off for Sparta to claim his reward. Paris was welcomed into Sparta by king Menelaus and was entertained for 9 days. That is when Athena finally came up with the innovative idea of the Trojan Horse. She knew it would be the perfect decoy to use against the Trojans. After the army successfully created the horse, Sinon sacrificed himself to act as an enemy of the Greeks. He was sent with the horse, looking beat up and tortured. He explained to the Trojans that the Greeks left him for dead and that he hated them so much he was willing to tell them everything. What the Trojans didn't know was that everything Sinon said, was a lie. One of the things he falsely confessed was that the horse was a gift from Athena, and that if it was destroyed, they would feel her wrath (“End of the Trojan War”). This led the Trojans to think that it really was a victory trophy and they could certainly not destroy it. Another thing Sinon told was if the horse was brought into the middle of the city, it would mean that the Trojans have won the war. The more Sinon said to convince King Priam about the “pureness” of the horse, the less he listened to everyone who objected to bringing it inside the walls.
