Uhcl Teaching Standards

UHCL School of Education has five professional teaching standards that are used to drive the curriculum of all of their programs. My goal, as a student, at UHCL is to gain a complete understanding and acquired skills that are required for me to become an effective teacher. These five standards are to guide me in making sure that I know the main essentials that are needed to assist my future students. In this paper I will discuss what each of these standards are and mean to me, one goal and supporting actions required to connect the standard to the classroom based on my experiences. As a teacher, you should always be punctual, have respect for peers and students, and follow by any rules the school might have. At no time should a teacher let any situation deter them from giving their all and providing their students with the best education. They are to adhere by legal and ethical requirements of the profession. It is important that the teacher is able to create a learning environment that meets the standards of local, state, or national. The teacher should create lessons that benefits all students no matter ethnicity, gender, socioeconomic status, and/or development level. We are not here to make judgement but to extend what we know to our younger generation so that they too may become global citizens. This standard as well implies that it is the responsibility of the teacher to make a commitment to continuously expand their knowledge as lifelong learner. I will adhere to this standard by demonstrating my understanding of content and professional knowledge. This could be anything from being on time, respect in the school, as well as, the community, treating all students equally, following school rules and learning new content. I want to be that teacher that every student looks up to and every teacher comes to for ways to improve their own classroom. This semester I’m taking four classes with three of them each having a field experience. I go to three different schools and no matter how consuming it is I’m still punctual, respectful, and follow all guidelines that are required of me.
