My Philosophy Statement

Education is the process of giving systematic instruction or an enlightening experience. It is also an individual and open experience for every student. A student should create their own path of education because that is what educators are preparing them for; they are preparing for the future. My philosophy of education is progressivism. Progressivism is characterized by a child-centered curriculum in which a student determines his or her own course of study. A student should be guided by their teacher in their own path of study, teachers should be involved with every student that they have, students learn best from experience and many topics other than basic skills like math, reading, science and english should be taught in classrooms. Every student should learn basic skills like math, reading, science and english. It is not until a student reaches about high school that they realize what knowledge they need for their personal careers goals. They feel like they will not use these basic skills later in life, but they definitely will. Personal finance, relationships, logic and reasoning, self awareness and uncertainty should also be taught in school. Personal finance is important because one needs to know how to buy a house and how to afford things. Relationships are important because it is our human nature to want to be around other people and to talk. Logic and reasoning are important because life is full of decisions and how decisions are made. One needs to know how to make a good decisions even if it is the hard way around. Self awareness is important because it is the ability to think about one’s own thoughts and students should think about the way they act.
