Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training.
This assignment paper will outline the teaching roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training, within the framework of my chosen subject of specialisation Art and Design. The course will be accredited, taught to adult learners at a beginner level, within an adult community college facility. It will be delivered with the use of computers, digital and artist techniques and field trips.

This allows the teacher to adjust their teaching methods to encompass as many of those styles as is practicable, enhancing students chances of absorbing the information being taught. “In 2005 Fleming stated that people can be grouped into four learning styles: visual, aural, read/write and kinaesthetic (VARK).” Visual learners respond to written information, preferring to observe and listen, they memorise by looking as pictures, they benefit from regular handouts and details outlined on a whiteboard for example. Diagrams and pictures help comprehension and memory. In an Art and Design context a large part of the learning process is visual. Aural (listening) learning is where the student processes information through listening and repeating, they tend to be good talkers and keen to be involved in discussions, however can be easily distracted and have difficulty with written instructions. Fostering open discussion in class and allowing the student to record the input may help them to internalise the information. A Kinaesthetic learner will prefer to absorb information through practical application, doing and role-play, they may use their hands whilst talking, these students do not like reading and may have poor spelling skills66. “ Assessment is a way of finding out if learning has taken place, it enables you to ascertain if your learner has gained required skills, knowledge and/ or attitudes”. By creating an individual learning plan the student can be involved in an organised plan of assessments throughout the course that are relevant both to the student and the course. At the end of the course this culminates in a formal evaluation of the students portfolio of work, which will be graded and accredited. However assessments at the end of each unit could help the student reach a higher level by addressing difficulties early but also improving on student strengths within the programme. The teacher must also record and assess their effectiveness allowing for improvement of the course. Learners must also be given the opportunity to evaluate the teacher and the course to enable improvements on the current and future courses, from their perspective as service users. This system of two way reporting has proved to be highly effective and allows for shared responsibilities and therefore inclusion when
