In modern society, it is integral for institutions to uphold a respectable figure in the public eye. Although a crisis can impede the prestige of an organization, the intelligent and effective use of public relations can deter many adverse attitudes, allowing the organization serene administration and functioning. However, not everyone can be successful in their endeavours of influencing societal attitudes. In fact, a prime example of poor crisis management is pertinent to the United Airlines PR fiasco, occurring in April, 2017. Additionally, conventional ethical responsibilities are dictated through PRSA’s Code Provisions of Conduct with 6 distinct provisions. First, the free flow of information is necessary in serving public interest and informed decision making. Second, Competition is necessary in promoting a healthy business environment. Third, the disclosure of information is integral in building trust with the public. Fourth, safeguarding information is essential in protecting privacy and withholding confidential information. Fifth, avoiding conflicts of interest is intrinsic in building trust and promoting good business. And sixth, enhancing the profession is required to improve, adapt, and hold public trust in the profession.
