Social workers often find it hard to name the theoretical frameworks they use in practice (Howe, 1987p.17). All social workers base their practice on theoretical assumptions, whether they are aware of it or not (Munro, 1998, p6). In this essay, I will analyse my own practice and the concerns of the case, using theory and research to demonstrate the learning outcomes for this module. I was based in the adult social care assessment team based with a local council. The main objective of the organization is to promote wellbeing for its service users. Wellbeing under the Care Act.

As a condition of the DOLs Authorization the managing authority had to contact the local authority for a placement review within two weeks but there was no record of this having occurred. When I was allocated this case by my practice educator, my first task was to query the managing authority’s understanding of the conditions of DOLs authorization as it appeared to not have met and the second to review his needs and his support plan under the Care Act.
I was very anxious regarding the first task as it meant speaking to the managing authority on behalf of the local authority and questioning their actions. I needed to use my professional authority as a student social worker but I did not feel confident, as it was only my fourth week at placement.
