Throughout the 20th century, the United States Postal Service (USPS) was very popular among consumers; however, over the past decade, their service has started to decline since new technology has made it inefficient. This leads to a controversial question. Should the USPS be restructured? Because of its outdated system and its significant loss in revenue, the USPS should be restructured by downsizing their physical business, and by expanding their business to the online market for an upscale in revenue. Reducing the amount of post offices is a crucial necessity because it will provide a bigger yield instead of a bigger loss, maximizing efficiency. By converting email addresses, it allows the USPS to rebrand themselves into a digital business. As years progress, Source B indicates that more consumers are shifting towards email addresses, decreasing overall mail volume. “Customers are continuing to migrate to the Internet.” (Source C), meaning that it’s necessary to apply modern technology into the postal system or else they will fail because consumers are diverting towards the digital age. Modern technology has been implemented as a necessity towards the average consumer, therefore, updating the system will attract more customers because they have accommodated towards the younger generation.
