Encourage productive behaviors
• Instructor behavior – White board contained lesson objectives prior to students entering classroom. Walked around to make sure students understood lesson and was working toward completing the assigned task. Gave high fives for correct answers. Gave clear directions and responded respectfully to asked questions. Started discussion on time and ended with an exit ticket.
• Students’ response – Students are prepared for next assignment. Students were empowered and participated in lessons. Spanish speaking students appreciated the instructor writing key words in Spanish on the board.

Required students to wait their turn to respond to a question or to ask a question. Reminded students that when he was speaking they were listening. Students knew what to expect next.
• Students’ response – Behaved as students ready and willing to learn. Students displayed maturity in waiting their turn to speak. Encouraged to use vocabulary words when responding to the bell ringer.
Provide physical and cognitive tools that can helps students work and think more effectively
• Instructor behavior – Discussed reliable sources of information. Used overhead projector and computer. Class participation was heavily encouraged. Asked challenging questions that offered opportunity to challenge opinions. Used several sheets of butcher paper to record student answers.
• Students’ response – Actively participated in learning material being presented. Added answers to butcher paper. Read butcher paper to see what other students had posted. Read from the white board and computer projection.
Encourage student dialogue and
