I want to be a United States military officer in order to pass on the knowledge and experience that I have gained to future generations of Soldiers. With more rank comes greater responsibility. I will use my abilities and understanding of leadership to bridge the gap between noncommissioned officers and commissioned officers. As I progress through the ranks I can influence a greater number of Soldiers and enable junior leaders to be the kind of leadership we looked up to when we started this journey.
The main reason that I believe that I should continue my studies at ASMSA is because I do not feel educationally challenged in any way at the school I currently attend. Currently, the only two classes that I feel even the slightest bit challenged in is my PAP Biology class and my PAP English 10 class. I am also usually a very fast worker, and so I feel that a plethora of assignments that I do in classes are easy and do not take the full amount of time that is given. I also think that my studies should be continued at ASMSA because one pet peeve that I have is that I do not like busy work. I am not just saying that because I would like to do less work, and I do not mean work that teachers give for practicing skills learned beforehand, but
I used these leadership skills to then go to different leadership schools across the country which developed me even further. Then taking everything I learned and bringing it back to SUNY Oswego to help others change their lives and maybe make an impact on the world just like how I was trying to do. In addition to my academics, I have shown leadership skills during my time as a student. One of the first leadership positions that I held in high school was when I became a 9th grade ambassador. I signed up for this leadership opportunity because I felt I would be able to make a difference at my school. We had a large group of approximately fifty 8th and 9th grade students and it was difficult for everyone
I believe the leadership skills I have developed through my experiences are being confident, responsible, and patience. I have attained these qualities through my involvement in Youth Lead, Personal Best Karate, and Kumon Learning Center. Youth Lead is a program for teens, run by teens in order to build the next generation of community leaders. Through training, mentoring, regular meetings, and activities from this program, I have gained the confidence to lead projects independently and facilitate difficult conversations. This program has encouraged me to initiate a club similar to Youth Lead at Sharon High School.
I am an active participate in student council, student ambassadors, youth and service groups, my school newspaper, and several different sports. I often find myself naturally taking on a leadership within these organizations. Communication is another skill I feel strong leaders must obtain. I believe I can communicate ideas effectively to different audiences.
I attended my first summer camp when I was five years old. It was a local day camp, and I remember the charismatic energy that all my counselors had. I wanted to be a counselor and do my best to give to my campers as my counselors did to me. Before that, I went through a five-week leadership program at this camp. When I learned to lead, I participated in activities that taught me the skills that I needed to be an effective leader inside a classroom- patience, understanding, teamwork, communication, and critical thinking.
I feel these I need to be a stronger leader and be more effective at my personal and professional career. I feel this would be a positive change in my life and would advance me where I can be more financially stable. Leadership is something I am required to be familiar in my school environment. Instructors requires involvements of leadership even in the simplest task as following directions or doing a project. This would in short allows students to better communicated with each other. After several leadership experiences I realize that I enjoy working with other students to solve challenges together. Along with that communicating with the team rather than just simply assigning roles and demands on the group.
Although I have never taken on a leadership role in my community, I feel that I have obtained leadership qualities that enable me to be a positive example. I have worked with kids camps before in church related events and have been able to perform more than what was expected of me, always contributing my time effectively and taking it upon myself to demonstrate leadership when asked or needed. These past two years I have been able to say with confidence that I am a leader and my contributions to kids camps that I volunteer with are important to me. Leadership is something I have grown in continually throughout these past four crucial years in my life. My freshman year to now my senior year was spent figuring out the woman I wanted to be and the woman I have become.
Another thing I haveve learned from athletics is that it is one way to set an example to those around you, not the type of example that says “ I can do this better than you”, but an example that says this is the standard I hold myself to and I will continue to push its’ limits and my own as well. This has also taught me in a few ways some leadership skills. The primary example I can provide being that I should never ask someone to physically do something I can not do, have not done, or not willing to do myself. This does not mean mean I have to do everything I ask of somebody, but it reminds me that I must always set an example myself if I expect other people to put forth the effort to achieve anything. Another one of the leadership skills I have learned is that as a leader, or an athlete, one must use their self-motivation to push others to do their very best.
I was able to analyze trends in the market place and identify non-value-added processes, thus finding ways to improve and maximize profitability. I also held positions that helped me manage teams and develop them into revenue generators. My advanced leadership skills as well as my family, has taught me the importance of leading by example. My father demonstrated leadership through integrity, honesty, dedication and compassion for others; Thus, my leadership style is one that sets an example and demonstrates that success can also be attained by anyone, in any social class, and any culture. I want to continue my education to show my parents and others that might look up to me that dedication, transparency and compassion can achieve more than leading by fear.
This seminar identified the key characteristics of a leader, advised us on how to improve our leadership skills, and taught us how to create a resume/attend an interview. Furthermore, these extracurricular activities have helped build my employability skills, including: effective communication, time management, organizational skills, setting realistic goals, and most importantly completing an objective. This year in school, I have been in a position of leadership as the House captain, Diamond House, for the year 2015-2016 and lead my house to victory for the Champion House trophy.
