The Road To The Lofty Goal
Joyce Meyer once said, “We don't grow when things are easy, we grow when we face challenges.” This quote of his effectively sums up the reasons why I want to enroll in the Advanced Placement English class. Compared to English Literature, AP English provides more challenging and more frequent writing opportunities for students to work on critical thinking skills. Once the students show the ability to think critically, they will be required to analyze their thoughts in a limited amount of time. Because of the challenges provided in this class, I want to enroll in the AP English course.
From my perspective, I firmly believe the need for strengthening my writing skills, including gathering ideas, adding power with rhetorical devices, and shortening the time needed to derive a well written essay. How can one write an excellent essay if one does not have any ideas to extend from? I’ve struggled with finding ideas, so I seek for a mentor’s help and more practices. AP English offers the solution to my situation. I would have frequent practices and other’s critique in order to strengthen my skills. Every time when I am assigned with an essay, my mind does not function like the Google searching engine, which leads to countless information. Instead, my brain works like an old computer that runs so slow and often takes so much time to find good ideas. I do not “link” rhetorical devices to my essay and my thoughts take a while to “processing.” It has been a struggle for me to come up with creative usages to convey ideas more persuasively.
