Calvin Coolidge wasn’t one of the most well-known presidents but, he was considered a good president to many people. He was the 30th president of the United States of America. As a new president, he fought to demonstrate his determination to preserve the old morals. Using his fight and wit he attempted to leave a positive impact on the United States of America. Coolidge was born on July 4th, 1872 in Plymouth, Virginia. He was the only American president born on Independence Day. His father was a part of the Justice of the Peace and had many commitments to public services. Coolidge and his father had many similarities including public speaking. Coolidge had little ambition in life beyond hoping to follow his father as a good, honest small-town merchant (Greenberg). However, like his father Coolidge also ended up in the public’s eye. His strong belief that all people are equal led him to sign legislation making Native American Indians citizens of America. He sought unity in a time where America was truly racially divided. A lot of his beliefs dealt with America, and how America should be the land of opportunity. Although he wasn’t willing to help the farming community he thought that education was very important, and that government should help financially. Over all, he wanted Americans to be free, independent, and self-reliant. Coolidge was known more for his character than his achievements. During his presidency, he dedicated Mount Rushmore as an American landmark. However, his signature achievements were the Dawes Act, and the Kellog’s Briard Pact. The Dawes Act helped native Americans move off of reservations and gain American citizenship. The Kellog’s Briard Pact stated that countries would agree not to use war to resolve disputes and conflicts.
