What’s the reason? Is it really harmful? Schools drug test students to make sure they aren’t anything bad. Although it might have one pro, there's many cons like, expelling students for doing drugs, will seal their future as an addict. Kids shouldn’t be forced to be drug tested unless schools are for sure know that they are doing drugs. Drug testing costs a lot of money for schools, they cost an average of $38 for one drug test. Tests are very expensive, the money that pays for drug tests could be spent on other supplies for the school like paper, pencils, technology, and etc. Schools shouldn’t expel or give suspension because kids would just use that time to do more drugs, schools should think about In School Punishment (ISP). Testing students can also make them feel violated in some way, and schools should feel like a safe place, shouldn’t it? Sure, drug testing can create a “safe” and drug free environment, but they cost schools so much money and can ruin someone's life in seconds. When a positive drug test lead to suspension from extracurricular and athletic activities, the effects of it can be destructive. Drug testing violates students’ rights to be free from unreasonable search and seizure, as said in the fourth amendment. Expulsion and suspension is not an effective way of fighting drug use in schools and some drug tests most likely won’t catch drug users. Even though they might catch them and give them a punishment, it may not even prevent them from doing drugs, but some might use more dangerous drugs to not be caught. Testing people violates the our rights and the constitution, sometimes isn't even effective, and can tear someone's future
