As a nurse manager, I would provide education to the unit staff about different cultures, grouping nurses together of different cultures, and implementing effective communication among nurses. To educate the staff about cultures, I would set up a monthly class. In this monthly class, staff would be educated on the behaviors, illness perceptions, and what is acceptable in different cultures. Partnering together nurses of different cultures would allow nurses to be more well-rounded with the cultures in the workplace. Encouraging effective communication among nurses gives them an opportunity to discuss concerns they may have or answer questions about a culture. Each of these ways described helps the nurse to be more aware of the variety of cultures that surrounds them, enabling them to be more open-minded of the cultures of nurses and patients. The three examples help nurses to be more knowledgeable and accepting of a culturally diverse environment that’ll allow them to provide improved patient care.

By providing examples, it’ll reinforce the nurse that what they’re doing in their job is positive and should be continued on. To be able to give employees examples of their performance, I as a manager, would keep an anecdotal log of employee performances. Recognizing good performance can also be done by thinking the employee for their work. As the manager, I would also provide recognition by sharing patient comments about their good performance when caring for their patient.
