Working in groups allows employees to engage with one another, split the workload and strengthen relationships with other employees. Employees are able to gain a better sense of their coworkers, alieving any perceptions that may have been established before. Working in groups allows tasks to be completed at a faster rate, while engaging all members actively. An important aspect of working in groups that managers have to monitor is group behavior (Robbins, S.P. et al. 2009). There may be cases where the work load isn’t divided equally, some employees lack motivation, or some employees may be more controlling of others (Liberty University. 2016). Groups are able to strive when each employee has a unique contributing skill, or overlapping skills (Batchelor, J. et al. 2014). Being able to identify each employees’ skills the manager is able to place employees together who can strengthen and support each other during an assigned task. The next aspect; task identity allows the manager/employees to identify which assignments need priority completion and how extensive the completion will be (Robbins, S.P. et al. 2009). By having the employees engage in this portion of the job characteristic model, they are able to use their previous work experience and proper communication to identify which employees can work together to complete tasks. Task significance is one of the most important concepts within the characteristic model. It allows both the manager and employee to know which tasks should be priority, as well as educate on why it is such an important task to accomplish (Batchelor, J. et al. 2014). By discussing the task significance as a group, all group members are aware of which assignments are priority and reestablishes the need for everyone to properly contribute to the group assignment. Properly establishing these three concepts before engaging into the group work, will allow all employees to be advised on the role they play, what their contribution will lead to, and whom will be the helping sources when completing the
