Abraham Lincoln was a pretty good leader that did many things. Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809. He was the 16th president of the United States and is known for his many achievements during his presidency. On January 1, 1863, Lincoln delivered the Emancipation Proclamation, reshaping the whole purpose of the Civil War from saving the Union, to ending slavery. He was the kind of man you’d want to babysit your kids or just ask for advice. His proclamation stated all individuals were held as slaves in Southern states “henceforward shall be free.” On November 19,1963, Lincoln delivered what would be his most famous speech and one of the most important ones too. He wanted people to know that slavery and segregation was wrong and need to be stopped. He always saw potential and faith in humanity, he just needed to use a little metaphorical fuse to light his metaphorical fire.
Young Lincoln was raised on a farm by his dad Thomas Lincoln and his mother Nancy Lincoln. Sadly, Nancy died from milk sickness(When someone eats white snakeroot which contains toxic alcohol) when little Abe was only 9 years old. About two years later, Thomas Lincoln married Sarah Lincoln. She became more of a mother and adult figure to him than anyone else. Lincoln had two siblings; Thomas Lincoln, Jr and Sarah Lincoln Grigsby. When Abraham went to school he learned to read. When he learned he couldn’t stop, it was his favorite pastime. Lincoln would round up all his friends from school and tell them stories about whatever he could think of at the time. Thomas Lincoln did not like it at all. He wanted Abraham to work on the farm and do only that, but that didn’t stop Abe from reading. He also had a great sense of humor. “One time after I whitewashed the kitchen I went out to grab some milk from town. Lincoln had grabbed a pig and made it walk across the ceiling. When Lincoln was around 50 years old he ran for president against Douglas Breckinridge. Andrew Johnson was his vice president. Lincoln had a lot more accomplishments then just the Gettysburg Address. He was the 16th president, was he only president to hold a patent, is on the penny and $5 bill, and issued the emancipation proclamation. He was also Illinois legislature in 1834, 1836, 1838, 1840, and 1844.
On November 4th, 1842, Abraham married a woman named Mary Todd and had 4 sons; Robert Todd, William Wallace, Tad, and Edward Baker Lincoln. When he wasn’t working he was with his family. His sister died when she had given birth and left an impact on him. On April 15, 1865, Abraham Lincoln went to Ford’s Theatre and sat in the president’s box. Southerner John Wilkes Booth snuck in through the back and shot Lincoln in the head. Booth thought that if he killed the president who ended slavery, it would probably abolish the whole law and he’d get his slaves back. The police had found him in a warehouse. The shot in the head didn’t kill him immediately, it paralyzed him then killed him the next morning. It made Lincoln the first president assassinated. It was a tragic death that the whole country mourned over. But even though he’s dead he still died an American hero who ended
