From world sports like this article talks about and what we have discussed more in class to college sports, every network builds itself around these big sporting events. Using F1 as an example, “…with the rise to prominence of British driver Lewis Hamilton, average ratings for ITV1 steadily grew between 3 to 4 million” (in class reading). I use this as an example because it really shows how the sport matters to TV, back in the US, with the spike in play of college football and basketball, their ratings go way up too. If we connect this back to paying the collegiate athletes, we see that they are already on air so much and representing their schools so much. This is why I feel they need to be paid because they are what is driving ratings up and bringing money to media outlets, conferences, and back to their colleges.
