Persuasive Essay: Animal Experimentation
Animal experimentation has been seen either very wrong or necessary to do. Millions of people die each year from a number of diseases. “And every drug licensed for treatment has been tested by an animal” (Brooks 1). But also we have advanced in biomedical knowledge within that time. And people are asking, is animal experimentation necessary for our own health? Animal experimentation is necessary because it makes it possible for new drugs or vaccines that could save our lives to be developed, benefits us, and helps us advance in biomedical research. Many believe that animal experimentation is a good way to help develop a drug or vaccine. But many people believe otherwise. Some people believe the testing …show more content…

One of the founders of Pro-Test, a British group that supported continuing animal testing in scientific research says “Without the ability to use animal in their research, scientists’ efforts would be massively hampered” (Pycroft 1). Without the use of animal use in experimentations we would not be able to test drugs, vaccines, and chemicals that would be harmful to humans if we don’t have anything to test them on. Like John C Eccles’ work on cars’ spinal cords that first incontrovertibly demonstrated the nature of the synapse. Animal research can also educate children to see how an animal body works. “In regard to education, children all over the world dissect animals to learn their basic anatomy. It gives them a chance to see the different organs and their placement and to imagine what the creature’s bodily systems were like when it was alive. It also leaves more lasting impression than if the children merely study from a diagram” (Miller 1). Children can be educated to learn about animals and possibly help more animals in the future if they choose. Biomedical knowledge has advanced due to the practice of animal experimentation, doing so helping
