Civil rights, this word to us as Americans is something we should hold dear and close to our hearts. These rights are what our founding fathers fought for in 1786. So why now would we cease to fight for equal rights and opportunity for us and others. The civil liberties of this nation have seen many great changes in the past and to which many were fought for with immense bloodshed of those trying to receive them. To imagine this nation without the rights promised to myself or others is a scary thought, and to imagine a nation of rights only given to select few based upon gender or color is sickening. The most updated of which these have been made to that of the right of gay marriage. The right to marry to is not only one that one hold close to their heart but also one that will help couples with things such as insurance and other rights given to that of straight couples. These decisions to allow the right of others is marry who that want is one that I can whole heartedly support. My reason being that the idea of a man and women can only marry is one that is based on religious ideology, something which our first amendment protects …show more content…

The rights were held away from these communities because of discrimination. This such discrimination against these individuals is just not right in my opinion. I do not like the idea of gay marriage as it goes against my religious views, but does it really bother me if someone is gay? Of course not, they aren’t sitting there trying to hurt myself or anyone else. The same could be said for the 1960s movement for the rights of those who were any race but white and in the 1920s when women fought for their right to vote. As humans we have a disgusting instinct to bunch up and oppress or discriminate against others unlike ourselves. Those we see as outsiders often tend to have to fight for respect and or
