Gun Right There is a problem in America. A problem that needs to be fixed to save lives. That problem is a lack of appropriate gun control. According to the CDC “In 2014, 33,599 persons died from firearm injuries in the United States.” This means that roughly 92 people were killed by firearms each day in 2014. How many more lives will be lost before there is a change made? There needs to be laws passed to ban some types of guns and widening background checks to close gun show loopholes. The first action that needs to be taken on is the banning of semi and fully automatic assault weapons from the public. Many of the mass shootings in America have been with assault rifles. Most people want guns to hunt or protect their family. However, “You don’t need an assault weapon to protect your family or shoot a deer” (Miller). There is no reason for people to own an assault weapon. In the Aurora, Colorado shooting, the shooter used an assault rifle to kill 12 people and wound 58. But there are many loopholes criminals can use to still get guns. Jonathan Gutierrez, is a gang member in jail being interviewed on where the gangs got their guns, he said “Most of the weapons that were used were coming from the gun show” (qtd in Willis). The reason that gang members who would not be able to get guns at a gun retail store is they would not pass the background checks. In gun shows the sellers are not required to give background checks on the buyers. This makes it easy for criminals and the mentally unstable to get ahold of guns and ammo. People can also buy guns on the internet without background checks. If background checks are made mandatory at gun show and online sales, it will make it harder for criminals and the mentally unstable to get
