Safe gun control laws can be assured by enforcing stringent requirements for obtaining a gun permit, including psychological evaluations, background checks for criminal history, and education on firearm safety. Although the second amendment protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms, gun control laws need to be strengthen. Gun control has been in debate for many years. With the recent mass shootings, gun control is being forced into the spotlight. The process of obtaining a gun is defective allowing the mentally ill and people with criminal history to obtain a firearm. Making a long waiting-period and enforcing deeper background checks, would reduce the amount of violence with guns. It would make it more difficult for minors, people with psychological issues, and criminal records to obtain a gun. This process would not stop those who want a gun to obtain one, but it would help a majority of the problem. Although strengthening gun control will not stop those from obtaining a gun, they can still finds way to obtain a gun.
