Animal Experimentation is ethical There has been an ongoing debate whether animal experimentation is ethical and should be allowed. While many people disagree with it because they claim that it is ethically wrong to experiment on animal, many people disagree and think it should continue to be allowed. Those who favor animal experimentation argue that the benefits outweigh the negatives. Animal testing has led to a significant increase in medical discoveries and has saved millions of lives. However, people still continue to think that it is unethical to experiment on animals. Defenders against animal testing believe that animals are morally equal to humans, but if animals were to be truly equal to humans how is it ethically possible that we own and eat animals? Expert in psychology Helene Guldberg said, "Human beings, unlike other animals, are able to reflect on and make judgements about our own and others' actions, and as a result we are able to make considered moral choices" (Guldberg, Helene: 2011). Animals are similar to us in DNA and sensory features, however they do not have the capability of think reflect or think morally. It is acceptable to experiment on animals because it saves our lives. People think argue that animal experimentation is cruel but let animal experimentation not be confused with animal torture. Those who enjoy inflicting pain or unnecessary test on animal for no purpose, now that is animal cruelty. As Julia K. H. Tanner from Durham University said, "if we limit our moral consideration for animals to the anti-cruelty principle there is much to be lost and little to be gained by adopting it. Doing so means we are more likely to suffer poor health, be exposed to dangerous drugs, allow people to starve and contribute to the destruction of the environment" (Julia K. H. Tanner:
