Arguments Against Animal Testing

Introduction
Testing on animals has been a hotly contested issue for hundreds of years. Every year a colossal number of animals are used for testing and most of them die due to ill treatment and stressful conditions. On that account, experimenting on animals used to develop new medicine should be reduced or prohibited, because it is ethically wrong and unreliable. On top of that there are methods that substitute the testing on animals

History of animals experiments in brief
The animal testing has a long history. The first experiments were conducted in the ancient times, when Greek scientists performed animal experiments to advance the knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology. Some of the earliest references are found …show more content…

According to the BUAV (British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection) estimates, more than 100 million vertebrates are used for testing every year. These experiments are connected with animals being kept in cages in bad conditions and animals suffering from pain.

Argument 2 – Animal tests do not reliably predict results in human being as animals are different from us
It is true, that human beings and tested animals such as rats are both vertebral mammals, which means that they have basic similarities in bloodstream, skeletal system or constant body temperature. Yet animals and humans are different species with distinct physiology, metabolism and immune system. Human beings and animals react differently to chemical and pharmaceutical substances; therefore animals testing cannot guarantee the safety for human. Many drugs on the basis of animal experiments were considered to be safe, however they had serious or even lethal reactions on humans. Furthermore, for drugs assurance, the product is tested on many other species and vast amount of animals. In the end, the drugs fail to success and the enormous numbers of animals unnecessarily …show more content…

Considering the lack of information and technology, it was understandable, that animals were used in order to broaden people’s knowledge in biology and medical field. Throughout the all centuries, we have collected a wide range of knowledge. Moreover, the scientists have done a big leap in developing new technologies. We are able to conduct methods that in the past were absolutely impossible to pursue. Nevertheless animal testing has not much changed and animals are still suffering. Currently there are alternative methods for animal testing. The alternatives are cheaper, faster and more precise. Additionally, the effort to come with the well-working alternative methods might lead to improvement of science and technology. So why do the animals still have to suffer? The main problem is in the length of the approval process by the
