Arguments Against Animal Testing

Every year, around 100 million animals are killed due to animal testing. Research on animals has been around since at least 500 BC. Animals are tested on to help develop medical treatments, check the safety of products that will be used by humans, and for other types of research. During this research, these animals are tortured and killed. This has caused a lot of controversy throughout history. One side argues that it is cruel and inhumane and needs to be stopped, while the other side argues that there is no adequate alternative to testing on a living creature so it is crucial we test on them. At least 95% of animals used in experiments are not protected by the Animal Welfare Act. The majority of animal testing is not regulated, which is why many people are fighting for more strict laws. Although animal testing contributes to help researchers find life saving cures and treatments, animal testing should be illegal in the United States because most experiments are flawed and may not be used for anything useful, it is more trouble than it is worth, and alternatives now exist that can replace the need to test …show more content…

The costs are one thing that makes it a lot of trouble. Animal testing can be very expensive. Humane Society International compared multiple animal tests to in vitro tests, and an one animal test costs $32,000, while the in vitro test costs $11,000. This makes a waste of the money put towards research. Animal tests may mislead researchers into ignoring potential cures and treatments. Some chemicals that are harmful to animals prove to be very useful to humans. For example, aspirin is dangerous to some animals. Also, drugs that pass animal tests are not necessarily safe. Animal rights activists will always keep fighting for animal testing to go away, and some argue that because of this it would be easier as a whole to stop animal testing and start using
