I want to be a part of Enactus SFU because I want to create a foundation for me to build on throughout my post-secondary career. I find Enactus as a great opportunity for me to grow my roots and learn. Also, the fact that I've only been in SFU for one month and have known plenty of great individuals in Enactus urged me to apply for the club. I aspire to be apart of Enactus. As a first year SFU student, I am willing to put in the hours to set a solid base for my skills to grow on, create connections, and branch out of my comfort zone.
Similar to other immigrants my family history is somewhat compelling. Starting with my grandfather who was exiled out of Egypt in 1959 primarily as a result of the "decolonization process and the rise of Egyptian nationalism”, my immediate family and I also left France in 2004 as a result of rising tension against Jews. The migration of my grandparents and parents, from a young age, cultivated a sense of determination in me to overcome obstacles. Arriving in Miami at age 5, I had to learned my third language, English, in order to attend school. I was determined to and successfully lost my accent and got tested into the gifted program after a year of school.
My job as a patient care technician allowed me to care for numerous individuals from a variety of backgrounds. Through this experience, I came to the realization that I loved people. I loved hearing their stories and the secret hopes and fears they would share with me in the dead of the night. I realized that I wanted to have a career where I could not only help people, but learn from them as well. I believe a career in the healthcare field would allow me to do this.
In high school, I was Vice President of the Spanish Club, Editor in chief of the Latino Newspaper, a member of the National Honor Society, and a member of the Freedom and Citizenship Program at Columbia University. Also, I volunteered at the New York Autism Charter School and I was offered an internship at a City Hall in the Dominican Republic the summer of 2013. While in high school I was awarded for my dexterity in the Bilingual program and my academic excellence. I chose Brandeis University because I will be able to explore my interests beyond Brandeis’ classrooms by implementing my knowledge in a community full of bright and diverse individuals. Brandeis’ diversity will allow me to be exposed to different cultures and perspectives that can enrich my knowledge.
For as long as I can remember, I ve wanted to be a nurse. Helping people and seeing a good outcome from it has always been a dream of mine, it started when I was younger I saw my mom and grandma helping different people and nurturing them. Seeing how these people would smile and thank my family for helping them inspired me to choose this career. I love how even the uniform color could put a smile on a patient's face, or even simple things such as just seeing their caregiver. There was once a time when my grandma took me to work with her and although I didn t get to do much, just seeing the workers doing their best and putting their all into the job made me happy and very appreciative of them.
While I was searching for colleges during my senior year, Arizona State University was the first college that caught my attention. My sister, Ranine is currently a junior at ASU and has loved it ever since she stepped foot on campus. Her love for ASU greatly encouraged me to look further into attending ASU. After going on the campus tour and speaking to students, I officially decided that I wanted to be a Sun Devil. Choosing a major was hard for me because I struggled between wanted to major in psychology, getting on the path to be an orthodontist, or attending W.P Carey School of Business.
I am honored to have this opportunity to apply Master of Arts program at Roger Williams University. Since I was in high school, I knew that I wanted to further my education and deepen my interest in mental health by becoming a counselor. I believe that my educational background has instilled in me the qualities required to handle the rigor intensive graduate level. I am confident that my undergraduate education, internship, and study abroad experiences have been the steps I needed to take to get me to your front door and all I am asking is for a chance to prove to you the strength of my work ethic.
I believe as a returning student to ISU, I had a unique experience in the class. I graduated with a degree in Child, Adult, and Family Services in May and decided that teaching was my true passion so I returned to Iowa State to begin earning that degree. I have worked for about four years for United Community Schools as a Lead Childcare Associate and as a Substitute Associate in both preschool and special education. Additionally, I have spent time as a Special Education Associate in Ankeny and have volunteered in Ames Community School District Classrooms. With my experience, I have spent a lot of time in schools and in classrooms.
I am fortunate to say that my unyielding curiosity about the world has pushed me to become the independently driven student I am. Acceptance into the Neuroscience Graduate program at Brandeis University will allow me to pursue my interest in neuroplasticity, and transfer the skills acquired throughout my degree to research in a hospital setting. On May 19, 2018, I will complete a total of three consecutive years at Fitchburg State University, graduating with my Bachelors of Science in Psychology. In this time I have earned an overall GPA of 3.66/4.0, and a major GPA of 3.74/4.0.
I have always been involved beyond the classroom with the schools I attend. I attended King Kekaulike High School in Maui. My freshman year, I was an active member in Interact club, a local service club. I was also on the junior varsity volleyball team and the girls varsity soccer team. I am honored to be nominated for Crestwood’s National Honor Society for the 2017-2018 school year. I feel as if I use these four characteristics every day. Scholarship is something that I take for granted. When I think of school, I think it’s easy and all it takes is doing your homework to get good grades.
My short-term career goal is to find a position in either investment banking, asset management, or research. I plan to achieve it by networking with students and alumni both face-to-face and on LinkedIn, attending on-campus events (career fairs, company presentations, etc.), and applying directly through employers’ websites and through job search sites. My long-term career goal is to grow within the function, which I plan to achieve by working hard and efficiently, by building relationships with co-workers, and by networking with people in the industry. I believe that the Master of Science in Finance program at Villanova will help me to implement my plans by providing me with the necessary knowledge, networking opportunities, and career resources,
I am a junior English and communications major at Albion College intending to earn my Bachelor of Arts in May of 2018. A summer 2017 editorial internship at Scholastic would be a fantastic opportunity for me to expand on the skills I have already developed, while continuing to learn more about the publishing field. I have always been obsessed with reading, but growing up with a brother who did not develop the same passion motivated me to want to work in the publishing field so that I can help produce books for children and teenagers who need a story they can connect with. Scholastic stands out as a company to me due to your commitment to children’s literacy and the philosophy that reading can expand a child’s world. Beyond the Harry Potter series and The Hunger Games, the Dear America series and Cornelia Funke’s
Philosophy of Teaching Statement My philosophy of teaching is deeply grounded in the Socratic method of teaching and learning. Accordingly, in my role as an instructor, my overarching objective is to facilitate the transformation of novice students into erudite scholars that possess an independent, questioning state of mind. To effect the aforementioned change, in addition to staying updated with content-specific research, I keep abreast of research in cognitive and educational psychology, and I implement these research-proven teaching and learning strategies in the classroom. For instance, I incorporate a variety of scientifically-proven active learning strategies in my courses.
