Living in the United States, women are looked down upon when breastfeeding in public. Statistics have shown that breast milk is better for a baby’s health than formula. Although not every woman is able to breastfeed due to different reasons. The difference between formula and breastmilk is the nutrients that are contained in breastmilk and not formula. Breastfeeding is something that is a part of life that comes naturally (Murray. 2017). Breastfeeding needs to be normalized and not looked down upon in the United States. The benefits from breastfeeding are not only good for the baby but also the mother. A mother who breastfeeds is more than likely to recover from childbirth faster than a mother who does not breastfeed (Murray. 2017). I think this is important for the mother because it makes the healing process easier. A mother who breastfeeds reduces the risk of getting ovarian and breast cancer (Murray. 2017). Along with breastfeeding there comes cons that you could face. A couple disadvantage is that a mother could have sore nipples, or her milk ducts could be plugged (Murray. 2017). Everyone always tells you that you try to breastfeed, it is the best for the baby and you. But, when a mother breastfeeds in public it is looked down upon. This to me makes it hard to pick what you as a mother should do. If everyone is telling me to breastfeed but as soon as I have to feed my child in public people would be saying how wrong I am for breastfeeding and how disgusting it is. Even though as a mother I know what is best for my child, hearing peoples negative comments would make it hard for me to breastfeed in public. If the citizens of America are wanting everyone to breastfeed then when a mother is breastfeeding her child in public, she should not be judged or looked down
