As teachers strive to ready students for the 21st Century, it seems that more and more challenges are being encountered on a daily basis for our kids to be engaged and ready for learning. Teachers have to identify the barriers and facilitators of both the students and school in order to best support the unique perspectives, life situations and backgrounds that each individual has, meet them where they are at, and ultimately help them become life learners. Sault Area Public schools is the second largest public school district in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula with enrollment near 2400 students with a budget of just over $22 million dollars. The idea behind the commitment statement is that “Every Child Will Learn,” with the concept focused on having educators push all students to learn something new each and school day. Sault Area Public Schools does not use a formal vision statement for the entire district, but it does support its six school buildings in the commitment for high standards of learning.
