The Advancement Plan – An Overview
Once you have your team assembled – Director of Advancement and/or School Advisory Council (SAC) or Board of Limited Jurisdiction (BLJ) Advancement Committee – and your leadership is in place, it’s time to create an advancement plan. Your advancement plan should use your strategic plan as a guideline to develop goals and deliverables, which are mutually agreed upon by the pastor, principal, and Director of Advancement or advancement committee.
When it comes to creating an advancement plan, there are three “must know” fundamentals that will get you the results you need to put your school on track to raising more money. Those fundamentals are:

Major Gifts: Gifts given at a level that represents the largest amount received at your school. This amount varies, and may change over time. A substantial gift to your school may be $250 or it may be $25,000, or more.
NCOA: National Change of Address. This is a fee-based process that compares your database with the US Postal Service’s NCOA database, and either confirms or updates current addresses for your constituents, or flags those records that have bad addresses.
