Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for Teaching addresses four domains from which teachers are evaluated. Within Domain 2, Classroom Environment, I think that managing classroom procedures will be the most difficult, personally, to attain a distinguished level, because I tend to have a laissez-faire response to occurrences in my daily life. As a result, my classroom management plan must be carefully developed to distinguish student independence with clear expectations and consistent disciplinary measures. A daily self-sufficient routine will work best with my teaching style. In order to manage student behavior, I raise my hand when I need to gain students’ attention. In response, all students must stop what they are doing, make eye-contact with the teacher, and raise their hand to show me that they are listening. This procedure has worked well for me in the past because it is a quick and efficient way to make sure that all students are providing their attention to what the teacher will say. It also prompts others to stop what they are doing without singling out students and thus jeopardizing the positive learning environment. To speed up transition time, I plan on using a count down. Class Dojo is a behavior management system for students to earn points for specific positive behaviors and lose points for specific poor behaviors. The types of behaviors can be created by the teacher, so I may include categories such as persistence, teamwork, progress, participating, misusing materials, unprepared, off task, and disrespectful. Class Dojo can be accessed on the Smart Board and points can be easily distributed throughout class. A feature of this application is that it utilizes a sound for when a positive behavior is rewarded and a different sound for when poor behavior is recognized, so students know whether they are meeting the expectations. Another feature that is available on this application is the ability to communicate with the students’ parents. The parents can view the students’ point distributions and send messages to the teacher. Similarly, the teacher can communicate with parents throughout the day if any concerns arise, or simply to compliment something outstanding that the student did. Within the class’ syllabus, I would create consequences zero-tolerance behaviors such as vandalism and violence. However, I would like to make my consequences an opportunity for a life lesson, so I would avoid punishment where ever possible.
