1) What experience do you have specific to the position you are applying for and how would you use that experience to be successful at the Fulton Academy of Science and Technology? I have had the privilege of serving in the positions of teacher, substitute teacher, and tutor for over ten years. During that time, I have met countless students and colleagues from all walks of life. They all have taught me something that is part of my “educator’s DNA” to this day. Three very important components of my educator’s DNA are love for what I do and those I serve, a compassionate approach that reaches and heart and the mind, and a relentless pursuit of excellence in everything I do. This means enabling the student with level-appropriate goals, equipping the learner with the necessary tools, and encouraging the learner through positive reinforcement during the entire learning process. Granted, not all learners will achieve the same level of proficiency at the same time and by the same methodology, each educator must ensure proper differentiation for all students in the learning process. One specific example that comes to mind is foreign languages where some students will quickly be very proficient at communicating ideas, whereas other students might struggle throughout the process. This does not mean that the latter will not achieve proficiency, but rather that these learners will most likely require a different teaching approach and/or pace.
