The Embodiment of Leadership
` The idea that leadership is an innate and an esoteric gift that only few individuals possess is, but the darkest of lies. Leadership is not an innate gift, but something that we all possess in one form or another, but haven’t discovered how to use it. These past four years running cross country and track and field have taught me innumerable life lessons in the form of leadership.
The essential lesson I learned was that in order to be an effective leader one must be able to stand up for what they believe is of true importance, but also be able to take into consideration the needs of every single one of their peers. The greatest leaders were only capable of accomplishing amazing feats through perseverance and the belief that their dreams would be able to forge a new future not just for themselves, but for their peers. An effective leader is not just a role model for others to look up to, but the embodiment of the ideas that others believe will impact life as we know it. …show more content…

I only received this honor through the countless hours of dedication I put into the sport and at first, I was looked down upon due to my label as “Junior Varsity”my freshman year. Throughout my first season as captain, I put aside the labels due to my belief that a label doesn’t define you, but you create your own persona, which people are unable to change. I believe that I will be able to develop a strong work ethic within every individual with both being able to help them reach their goals through hard work, but also making it an enjoyable experience.
